About
Craig Howarth is a collage artist whose work reflects a lifelong curiosity about imagery, memory, and material. After an early ambition to become a professional photographer, Craig pursued a career in technology, but art never left the picture. Over the years, he explored various creative outlets while navigating the demands of professional life. Now, as he transitions away from the tech world, he is fully embracing his creative path.
Craig’s journey with collage began in 2006, sparked by a Robert Mars piece that inspired him to dive into the medium. Teaching himself image transfer and analog collage techniques, he began crafting layered, tactile compositions using found materials: vintage books, magazines, maps, and other ephemera. His early work was shown at the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition and featured on the beloved (and now-retired) Scrapiteria collage blog.
After a hiatus from art making, Craig’s move to Philadelphia in 2022 reawakened his artistic drive. Immersed in the supportive community of Collage Philadelphia, he returned to the studio with renewed energy. Today, he is experimenting with multiple mediums and collage, drawing on his background in tech and visual storytelling to explore how images shape personal and collective narratives.
Craig is currently focused on evolving his voice through an intuitive, material-driven process, piecing together fragments of the past to make sense of the present.
